Great news for The Eastmore residents! The city is currently in the process of planting four new trees on Second Avenue, a fantastic initiative to enhance our surroundings and contribute to a greener environment.
Here’s a quick update on the recent developments:
- Announcement and Preparation: In late November, stickers appeared, signaling the upcoming planting of five new trees on the sidewalk, all within the City-owned public right-of-way.
- Sidewalk Transformation: Shortly thereafter, sections of the sidewalk were transformed as concrete was removed and replaced with soil, preparing the ground for the new trees.
- Adjustment Near 75th Street: Notably, the tree site closest to 75th Street underwent adjustments. It seems it was deemed inappropriate due to its proximity to the former newsstand, leading to the replacement of the sidewalk in that specific area.
4. Community Involvement: According to NYC.gov Parks, local residents are encouraged to actively participate in caring for these street trees. Opportunities include watering, mulching, cultivating the soil, planting flowers in tree beds, and even installing optional tree guards.
5. Board Decision on Tree Guards: Since tree guards are optional, it will be interesting to see how our Board addresses this option, especially considering there is already one in place from a former planting.
